Food collected at Tesco in Tower Hamlets for Christmas joy

Jim Fitzpatrick, the Labour MP for Poplar and Limehouse has visited the Canary Wharf branch of Tesco to support the supermarket chain’s Christmas annual initiative to encourage shoppers to donate food for those in need. More than 2,600 Tesco stores across the UK, including those in the ELL boroughs, are running their tenth year of food collections in partnership with Deptford-based FareShare and the Trussell Trust, the foodbank charity.

Oxford author won Tower Hamlets Book Award 2017

Author Jo Cotterill has won the Tower Hamlets Book Award 2017 for her novel, A Library of Lemons. Cotterill, 41, lives in Oxford with her husband and daughters and was an actress, teacher and fireworks technician before she became a children’s book writer. She has been writing for 18 years. Cotterill told East London Lines: “I wasn’t expecting to win at all. The children cheered when my book was announced, I nearly cried.
